Men’s Soccer Pours on Goals in Downpour

AVE MARIA, Fla. — The Ave Maria Men's soccer team battled through the rain Tuesday evening as they defeated the South Florida Bible College Rams 5-0, securing their fourth win on the season. With shots coming from all over, the Gyrenes overwhelmed the Rams throughout the match.

The first goal of the match came from Mateo Rolon, off of a penalty shot in the 18th minute. Rolon's shot beat the keeper on the right side as the Gyrenes broke the tie.

Ave Maria kept on the attack and scored another goal in the 25th minute. This one was off the boot of Nikolas Briceno. The Gyrenes took their two goal into the break.

Just like in the first half, Ave Maria dominated the second and continued their flurry of shots. The Gyrenes had 40 shots throughout the match, 18 of which were on goal.

In the 54th minute, the Gyrenes struck again as Karl Sri's bounced the ball of the top of his head into the back of the net. The header was off a corner from Rolon who got the assist.

Ave Maria scored their fourth goal in the 70th minute as Caleb Jones saw his shot sail into the net. Chet Krushefski assisted the goal. It was both the first career goal and assist for Jones and Krushefski.

The Gyrenes final goal of the game came from Sava Cadjenovic at the 74th minute. It was the 20th goal of his career and Cadjenovic becomes just the third person to hit that mark in program history.

When the final horn sounded, Ave Maria walked off with a 5-0 victory.

Though they did not face a single shot on goal, keepers Noah Balyeat and Andrija Vujakovic put together the third shutout of the season. For Balyeat, it was his second career start in goal and win for the Gyrenes.

With the win, Ave Maria improves to 4-1 overall and 2-0 at home.

Ave Maria looks to continue their early success as they go on the road to face the Andrew Fighting Tigers. The match is Saturday, September 5, as the Gyrenes start a two game road trip. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on Andrew's website, the link to which can be found on the Ave Maria Men's Soccer schedule.
