Austin Hawkins is in his second season on the Ave Maria University women's basketball staff. McBride serves as an assistant coach for the varsity team, and also takes on a leadership role for the program's varsity reserves and junior varsity rosters.
Before coming to Ave Maria, Hawkins was the head coach for the boys basketball program at Beaver High School in Oklahoma. Before taking over at Beaver, he worked under AMU head coach Alex Moorehead at Deer Creek-Edmond High School, where he was the head coach for the junior varsity team and an assistant for the varsity team.
He began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the boys' program at Cherokee High School. Hawkins, a native of Cherokee, Oklahoma, graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in General Studies and emphasis in Education.Â
