Becker

Megan Becker

Megan Becker was hired as the second head coach of the Ave Maria women's basketball program in July 2018, and is entering her third season at the helm of the program.

Becker's second season saw Ave Maria again post a winning record and earn a spot in The Sun Conference Tournament. Her career record moved to 36-23, as the Gyrenes won 15 games. The Gyrenes were a top-15 team in the nation in rebounding, posting high-level numbers in defensive rebounds per game (32.9), rebounding margin (7.69), and offensive rebounds per game (15.1). Under her tutelage, Sarah Miller was named an Honorable Mention All-American, as well as the runner-up for the Sun Conference Player of the Year award.

In her first season, the Gyrenes went 21-9 and posted an 11-7 record in Sun Conference play. Ave Maria's conference record was good enough to earn a home game in The Sun Conference Tournament. Under Becker's leadership, the Gyrenes were in the top ten nationally in rebounding defense and rebounding margin, and ranked in the top 20 in scoring defense and scoring margin.

Before her hire at Ave Maria, Becker was an assistant coach at NCAA DII University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) from 2014-15. Prior to that, Becker was a graduate assistant at UNK for two seasons.

As assistant coach at UNK, Becker was the team's recruiting coordinator, generated scouting reports, assisted the head coach with practices and game strategies, and helped manage the team budget and volunteer work.

As a player at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Becker finished her career as one of 24 UNK Lopers to score over 1,000 points (1,043). She was a two-time All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team member. Her teams qualified for three NCAA National Tournaments. She averaged 15 points and eight rebounds per game during her senior season.

As a student-athlete, Becker was involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Newman Center. She also participated in several volunteer projects including Habitat for Humanity, various outreach programs, Safe Walk Against Domestic Violence, and Walk for Alzheimer's.

Becker earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications in 2011 and her Masters of Science in Education in 2014 from UNK.
