SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. --- The Ave Maria University women's basketball team was defeated 65-76 in St Augustine, Florida to Flagler College.
AMU got an early lead on Flagler 9-4 three and a half minutes into the game. The rest of the half saw several lead changes before the Saints went on a 14-1 run with 2:55 minutes to go in the half. The Saints were able to capitalize on the Gyrenes 14 first half turnovers.
The Lady Gyrenes spent much of the second half chipping away at the 10 point half time lead. A jumper by Yvanessa Vincent put the Blue and Green down by only two with 9:35 to go in the game. AMU struggled shooting from the outside in the second half; shooting only 32% in the second half. Nine second half turnovers made it difficult for the Lady Gyrenes to put themselves ahead. The Saints were able to score 16 points off of AMU's second half turnovers.
Annie Artise led the Lady Gyrenes with 15 points and 12 total rebounds. Madison McDonald also scored 15 points; while Vincent chipped in 13 points and had 8 total rebounds on the afternoon.
The Ave Maria University Women's basketball team is now 4-3 on the season.
The Lady Gyrenes return to the court tomorrow night when they take on FGCU in Fort Myers, Fla. at 5:00 pm. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 3.
