WEST POINT, Ga. --- The Ave Maria football team fell at Point on Saturday afternoon, 49-14. With the win Point (8-2, 5-0 TSC) clinched the Sun Conference Regular Season Title. AMU drops to 4-6 on the season and to 2-3 in TSC play.

AMU was able to keep the high scoring Skyhawks off the board early before Point found the endzone with 1:42 to play in the opening quarter on a Charles Fortis' six-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Robertson. Point made it 14-0 at the 11 minute mark when Fortis found Charles Duckworth for a six yard pass and catch touchdown. A few minutes later, Chrsitian Williams found paydirt for Point on a one-yard TD run to make it 21-0.

In the third quarter, Branson Robertson caught a 29-yard pass from Fortis for a touchdown. On the ensuing AMU drive, Yohannes Mathyas picked off the Gyrenes and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown to make it 35-0. Less than two minutes later, Fortis found Duckworth for another TD, this time on a 36-yard pass. Just before the end of the quarter, Ladarrius Mathis ran it in for a one-yard touchdown jaunt to make it 49-0 in favor of the Skyhawks.

Austin Hunt and Ryan O'Rourke got AMU on the board in the fourth quarter when the duo connected on a 19-yard touchdown pass. Later in the quarter, Hunt found paydirt on an 11-yard rush to make it 49-14.

Clayton Uecker got the start at quarterback for AMU and completed 11-of-27 passes attempts for 100 yards. He threw two interceptions. Austin Hunt completed 7-of-11 attempts for 94 yards and a touchdown. Hunt also led the Gyrenes in rushing with 28 yards on four attempts and a touchdown.

Ryan O'Rourke had two receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Inoa and Thomas Zimmer also had two receptions for the Gyrenes.

Frank Kelly had seven solo tackles including two tackles for a loss and a sack for AMU. Nick Dorgan and Marcus Johnson each had six tackles.

Brandon Leon had six punts for 222 yards and pinned Point inside their own 20 five four times. He missed his lone field goal try, a 30-yard attempt in the first quarter.

For Point, Fortis completed 25 of his 34 pass attempts for 309 yards and four touchdowns. Danyale Wicker rushed the ball seven times for a team-high 82 yards for the Skyhawks. Roberts had six receptions for 80 yards and two touchdowns while Duckworth had two receptions for 42 yards and two touchdowns.

Ave Maria concludes their 2015 season next Saturday when they make the trip up to Stetson for a 3 p.m. kickoff in Deland, Fla.
