COLUMBUS, Ga. --- The Lady Gyrenes wrapped up play at the NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic on Sunday, falling to (3) Reinhardt 12-3 in the consolation game of Gold Bracket Play.
AMU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third that was highlighted by a
Deanna Stirtzinger solo homerun, her third of the weekend. The Blue and Green were not able to hold on long as the Eagles scored seven runs on five hits, two walks, and a fielding error in the bottom half of the inning.
The Lady Gyrenes were unable to mount a comeback and managed just one hit the rest of the way.
Cheyenne Benson took the loss in the circle after allowing four runs, two earned, on two hits and a walk versus the Eagles.
Four different players collected hits in the game for AMU.
The game wrapped up play for AMU at the Leadoff Classic. The Lady Gyrenes won Pool 5 with wins over (RV) Corban and (11) Belhaven before falling to (1) Auburn-Montgomery and (3) Reinhardt in the Gold Bracket of the elite tournament field.
Kingsley Avery and
Alyssa Colding led the Blue and Green at the dish over the weekend. Avery finished up hitting .529 (9-17) that included a double, five runs scored, and three stolen bases while Colding hit .438 (7-16) over the weekend that included three doubles, a homerun, six RBI, and three runs scored.
Deanna Stirtzinger tallied the first three homeruns of her career, including a grand-slam, at the tournament. The freshman outfielder finished with eight RBI.
The Blue and Green are back in action again next weekend when they travel to Edward Waters College for a twin bill on Saturday beginning at 1p.m.
