Baseball Done In Late By FMUMiami, Fla.—Friday afternoon the Ave Maria Gyrenes baseball team lost the first game of a three game series with Florida Memorial University. Today's game was the Gyrenes first Sun Conference matchup in two weeks and their in-conference record now sits at 1-8 with an overall record of 13-18.
GAME RECAPFlorida Memorial jumped on the board early, scoring one run in the bottom of the first. The Lions would add three more runs to take a 4-0 lead heading into the fifth.
The Gyrenes jumped back into the game with a big three run, seventh inning, making the score 4-3. AMU knotted the score at four in the top of the eighth only to give it up in the eighth.
The one run in the bottom of the eighth inning, which made the score 5-4 Lions, would prove to be enough as the Gyrenes were set down in order in the top of the ninth.
The top offensive performers for Florida Memorial were Daniel Morales (Miami, Fla.) and Brian Gonzalez (Miami, Fla.) who each had two RBI on the afternoon.
Starting pitcher Alberto Rosario (Carolina, P.R.) earned the win for the Lions, going seven full innings and allowing only one earned run.
For the Gyrenes, Ryan Keegan (Estero, Fla.) and Bobby Oliver (Naples, Fla.) each had an RBI and Sean Tyrmbiski (Doylestown, Pa.) added two RBI of his own.
