Ave Maria, FL. – The Ave Maria University Women's Soccer team will be back in action this week with two matches against some very familiar foes. First this week for the Lady Gyrenes is a trip across the state, to the east coast, for a matchup with St. Thomas University. The Gyrenes and the Bobcats will play on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Miami Gardens. After their midweek match, Ave Maria will play host to Southeastern University on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Although both games are against opponents from within The Sun Conference, neither game will count on the official conference schedule.
The Lady GyrenesAve Maria enters this week with a 2-0 record on the season after victories against Trinity Baptist and Florida College.
Sarah McBride (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Anna Koerner (South Grafton, Mass.) will look to continue leading the Lady Gryrene offense in this week's key matchups. McBride and Koerner have accounted for two goals each and McBride has also added an assist in just two games.
In goal, Francesca Singleton (Manchester, UK) looks to remain perfect as she has recorded two shutouts in the first two matches of the season, going 5-5 on save opportunities.
Scouting St. ThomasThe Lady Bobcats have played a very strong schedule so far this year and now sit at a 2-3 record. St. Thomas has taken on 3 teams ranked inside the top 15 in the NAIA Women's Soccer Rankings and all 3 games have ended in overtime losses.
Sharon Tejeda (Miami, Fla.) and Ana Parra (Weston, Fla.) have been two of the offensive standouts for St. Thomas with two goals apiece.
Scouting SoutheasternSoutheastern is off to a 2-1 start in 2015. They picked up two wins right out of the gate against Bob Jones University and Florida College before taking a loss to Eckerd College. The Fire will play Oglethorpe University on Thursday before they travel down to Ave Maria on Saturday afternoon.
Bre Eldridge (Auburndale, Fla.) has been the offensive leader for the Fire with 2 goals and an assist through 3 games this season. She is the team leader in points with 5.
Jessica McClernan (Plant City, Fla.) has been the starter in goal and has made 12 save on 16 shots.
