AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's soccer team went toe-to-toe with Johnson & Wales on Wednesday afternoon, eventually falling 4-2 on a pair of late goals by the Lady Wildcats. Alexia Mazzoccone and Anna Koerner each netted goals for the Blue and Green.

Bailee Abrahamoff got the scoring started with a shot from the top of the box that just got by Ave Maria netminder Francesca Singleton to make it 1-0 in favor of JWU in the 32nd minute. Nine minutes later, Mazzacconne netted the equalizer to make it 1-1 going into the half.

A goal by Soleil Duplain made it 2-1 early in the second half before an Anna Koerner penalty kick goal tied the game for a second time.

With 15 minutes to play, Christina Medina scored on a shot coming off a corner kick to put the Lady Wildcats in front 3-2. A penalty kick goal by Abrahamoff with nine minutes to play brought the game to its final score of 4-2.

Ave Maria had nine shots, seven on goal, compared to 29 shots by Johnson & Wales, 14 of which were on net.

Singleton made 10 saves in net for the Blue and Green in the loss. Jenna Boersma picked up the win for JWU after making five saves and allowing two goals.

Sarah McBride had three shots on goal for AMU while Mazzoccone had two for the Lady Gyrenes.

Ave Maria returns to the pitch tomorrow afternoon when they make the trip to Johnson University (Fla.) for a 4 p.m. start.
