MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's soccer team dropped a road contest on Monday night, falling at St. Thomas 4-2. AMU held a 1-0 lead at the half before four second half goals by the Bobcats put them in front.
Juan Carlos Bucaram got the scoring started for AMU with a goal off a free kick 25 yards out in the 18th minute. That was the lone goal in the first half as the Gyrenes took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second, St. Thomas scored in the 50th and 55th minute to take a 2-1 lead. Jeff Henkel then found the back of the net off a pass by Jose Cruz to tie the game at two before goals by the Bobcats in the 85th and 90th minute gave St. Thomas a 4-2 edge.
Ave Maria was out-shot 26-5 with four of the Gyrenes' five shots coming on goal.
Bucaram led AMU with three shots and two shots on goal.
Andrea Salomone made eight saves over 90 minutes in net. He allowed four goals.
