AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's soccer team will make their first-ever appearance in the Sun Conference tournament on Saturday night when they travel to two-seed Southeastern. The contest is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Lakeland.

The Lady Gyrenes finished the 2016 season with a 5-10 overall record and a 3-7 mark in conference play. They finished with seven points in conference play this season, two ahead of Johnson and Wales and Webber who each finished with seven points, to clinch the playoff spot.

Ave Maria moved into the seventh spot after their 1-0 win at Warner on Saturday. AMU had to wait until Tuesday afternoon, when Keiser defeated Johnson & Wales, 2-1 in overtime, to learn they clinched their first trip to the conference tournament.

The Gyrenes will face the second seed, Southeastern, in the quarterfinal match-up. Southeastern won both meetings between the two teams this season, a 7-0 Gyrene defeat on Aug. 27 and a 5-0 win on Monday.

AMU will try to slow down the Fire offense. The Lady Gyrenes have allowed one or fewer goals eight times this season and have shut teams out twice this year. In net, Francesca Singleton has made 122 saves on the season, an average of 8.1 a game. The 122 saves is second most in a season in program history (134 saves by Singleton in 2013). Singleton currently holds the top three records for most saves in a season by an AMU netminder.

Alexia Mazzoccone enters the weekend matchup with four goals on the season. She leads the team with 30 shots and 19 shots on goal. Six different Lady Gyrenes' have scored this season.

Southeastern finished the season 15-1 overall and 9-1 in conference play, with their only loss coming at No. 2 Keiser by a score of 2-1. The Fire are currently ranked 23rd in the NAIA.

The Fire are led by Alyssa Kaminski who leads the team with 12 goals on 50 shots and 29 shots on goal. On the defensive side of the field, goalie Sydni Brookhouser ranks fifth in the NAIA in goal against average (0.420) and has 12 shutouts this season.

Live stats and video will be available for the game.
