AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's tennis team fell 6-2 to NCAA DII Eckerd on Friday afternoon by a score of 6-2. On the women's side, the Lady Gyrenes dropped a 7-2 decision to Eckerd.

Elias Zaghra picked up a win at two-sigles for the Gyrenes, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-7, to get AMU on the board. At three-singles, Brain Schmidt earned the win with a 8-5 victory over his opponent from Eckerd. Eckerd swept double play 3-0 and then won at one-singles, four-singles and five-singles. The sixth singles match was not played.

For the Lady Gyrenes, the doubles duo of Marianna Vargas and Mary Kathryn Lee won 8-3 at one-doubles. In singles action, Alex Lis-Planells won at five-singles, 8-5, to earn AMU its second point. Eckerd won at two-doubles and three-doubles before taking five of the six singles matches to win the match.

Both teams head to Orlando next week as they ready for three matches over spring break. Both squads will first face Otterbein University on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
