AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's tennis team opened their 2016 season on Saturday by hosting NCAA DII and sixth-ranked Lynn University at the AMU Tennis Complex. The Gyrenes fell by a score of 9-0 to the Fighting Knights.
 
Lynn took a 3-0 lead on the Gyrenes after doubles play. The Ave Maria one-doubles team of Elias Zaghra and David Luleta fell 8-2 while the two-doubles team of Brian Schmidt and TJ Fisher fell by the same margin. Daniel Pardo and Zachary Sadusky fell 8-0 at three-doubles.
 
In singles play, Riggs lost on one-singles 6-1, 6-1. Schmidt forced a tiebreaker in the opening set of his three-singles match, but fell 7-3 in the tiebreaker. He dropped the match 7-6 (7-3), 6-0. Zaghra (two-singles), Fischer (four-singles), Sadusky (five-singles), and Pardo (six-singles) each lost in straight sets.
 
Ave Maria begins conference play next weekend when they host Southeastern on Saturday and SCAD-Savannah on Sunday.
