AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's tennis team won their fourth match in five games on Saturday afternoon when they defeated St. Thomas 6-3. The women's team fell to the Bobcats 6-3.
On the men's side, David Zuleta and Brian Schmidt win at one-doubles 8-6 to get AMU started. After St. Thomas won the final two doubles matches, the Blue and Green won five of the six singles matches to win the match 6-3.
Zuleta made quick work at one-singles, winning 6-1, 6-1. After dropping the first set, Elias Zaghra won the final two sets at two-singles to win 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (8-4). Schmidt won 6-4, 6-2 at three-singles. Zach Sadusky won in three sets at five-singles and Dan Pardo won at six-singles to wrap things up for AMU.
On the women's side, Marianna Vargas and Mary Kathryn Lee won at one-doubles 8-2 for the first point for the Lady Gyrenes. The duo also won their singles matches for the other two AMU points. Vargas won at one-singles 6-4, 4-6, 13-11 while Lee won at two-singles in come from behind fashion, 4-6, 6-2, 10-4.
Both teams return to action on Tuesday when they host Midland University at 2 p.m.
