ORLANDO, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's team swept Capital University 9-0 on Friday afternoon for the teams second straight victory and third in the last four games. Taking on the University of Mary, the Lady Gyrenes fell 7-2.
The Ave Maria men swept doubles play, with David Zuleta and Brian Schmidt winning at one-doubles 8-6. The doubles duo of Elias Zaghra and Daniel Pardo won 8-0 while the duo of Zachary Sadusky and TJ Fisher won 8-4.
In singles play, all six matches went in favor of AMU in straight sets. Zuleta won 6-4, 6-3 at one-singles while Zaghra won at two-singles 6-3, 6-0. Schmidt won at three singles 7-5, 6-1 and Fischer won in the four spot 6-1, 6-3. Rounding out the scoring for AMU was Sadusky with a 6-3, 6-1 win at five-singles and a 6-1, 6-2 victory by Pardo at six singles.
On the women's side, AMU won at one-singles when the doubles duo of Marianna Vargas and Mary Kate Lee came out on top of their match 9-7. Vargas also won at one-singles 6-3, 6-4 for the Blue and Green's second point.
Both teams return to action on Saturday in Orlando. The men's team will take on Aquinas at 1 p.m. while the women's side will face Cornerstone University at the same time.
