ORLANDO, Fla. --- The Ave Maria tennis teams concluded their spring break matches in Orlando on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Gyrenes defeated Cornerstone 9-0 while the men's team fell to Aquinas 9-0. Both teams finished the week 2-1.
On the women's side, AMU swept doubles play 3-0. Marianna Vargas and Mary Kathryn Lee won at one-doubles 8-1. Caitlin Constance/Alex Lis-Planells and Camila Branstner/Mary Hardin each won 8-3 at two-doubles and three-doubles, respectively.
In singles play, Vargas won at one-singles 6-0, 7-5. Lee dropped just two games in her win at two-singles and Branstner dropped just one game in her win at three-singles. Constance swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at four singles. Lis-Planells and Hardin wrapped up the match for AMU with a pair of straight set wins.
The Ave Maria men's tennis team returns to action on Wednesday when they welcome Franciscan University to the AMU Tennis Complex. Then both teams return to conference next Saturday when they host St. Thomas at 1 p.m.
