Lady Gyrenes Sweep DH At St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria softball team completed the three-game series sweep with a sweep of the doubleheader on Saturday. The Lady Gyrenes got big seventh innings in both games, taking the first game 5-1 and game two 13-1.

In game one, St. Thomas held the AMU bats quiet and took a 1-0 lead into the seventh before five runs in the top of the inning gave the Lady Gyrenes a 5-1 edge. Marinna Shadley got the scoring started for Ave Maria with a two-RBI single. Paige Aldred followed that up with a RBI single followed by a two-run homerun by Sadie Mosher.

Mosher picked up the win in game one, pitching seven innings of one unearned run ball. She allowed four hits and walk one while striking out five. She improved to 10-4 on the season with the win.

In game two, it was again Mosher that sparked the Lady Gyrene offense with a three-run home run in the top of the third to give AMU a 3-0 led. After St. Thomas scored a run in the sixth, AMU came back with 10 in the top of the seventh to make it 13-1.

Shadley struck first with an RBI double to left before Mosher drew a bases-loaded hit by pitch to make it 5-1. Alyssa Colding then doubled to center to score two runs before a triple by Deanna Stirtzinger plated two more for the Blue and Green. Brittney Pressler and Kalie Romig each picked up RBIs before Shadley added two more RBI in the inning to make it 13-1.

Pressley earned the win in game two. She pitched all seven innings and allowed one run on five hits and one walk. She struck out three on the day.

AMU improves to 21-9 on the season and to 6-3 in conference play with today's sweep. The Lady Gyrenes return to action next weekend when they welcome Warner to AMU Softball Field for a three-game set.
