Box Score 2 BRADENTON, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's and women's tennis teams took on Franciscan this afternoon in Bradenton. The men's team defeated the Barons 9-0 while the women's team fell 7-2 in the non-conference matchup.

The Gyrenes men's tennis team got off to a fast start, taking all three points in doubles play. Cesar Menacho and Brandon Valley were the first match finished with the doubles team picking up a point at the third flight with an 8-1 win. Â Next to finish was the one-doubles match with David Zuleta and Nicholas Hofmeister winning 8-1. TJ Fischer and Jonathan Althoff won at two-doubles 8-3.

In singles play, Fischer earned AMU their fourth point at four-singles 6-0, 6-2. Zuleta clinched the match for AMU at one-singles 6-2, 6-0 to give the Blue and Green a 5-0 advantage. Hofmeister, Davin Hanton, Menacho, and Valley each picked up wins in singles play to sweep the match 9-0.

On the women's side, Camilla Branstner and Averie Harkey won at one-doubles 8-5 but it was Franciscas that would lead 2-1 heading into singles play.

Branstner again got AMU off to a good start in singles play with a 6-2, 6-4 win in the first position. Harkey lost a tough three-setter in the second position 6-3, 1-6, 5-10. Each Gyrene picked up a couple games in the remaining singles matches but Franciscan won five of the six singles matches to take the match 7-2.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday when they take on Eckerd in St. Petersburg. The match will begin at 1 p.m.
