Box Score WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's tennis team wrapped up the 2019 season with a 8-1 win against Loras College (Iowa) in Wesley Chapel on Monday afternoon.
The Gyrenes took a 2-1 lead after doubles play when David Zuleta and Nicholas Hofmeister won at one-doubles 8-1 and Cesar Menacho and Brandon Valley won at two-doubles 8-1. AMU nearly swept the doubles points with TJ Fisher and Jonathan Althoff falling 9-8 (7-5) in the third doubles spot.
Menacho made quick work of his match at four-singles to give AMU its third point of the match. He won 6-1, 6-0. Valley made it 4-1 Gyrenes with a 6-1, 7-6 (3) win at five singles. Zuleta clinched the match for Ave Maria with a win at one-singles, 6-3, 6-2.
Hofmeister continued the Gyrenes win streak in singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win at two-singles. After trailing 2-5 in the first set, Fisher came back to win that set 7-5 and closed out the match with a 6-1 second set win. Althoff completed the singles sweep for the Gyrenes with a 6-4, 6-3 win at six-singles.
The Gyrenes finish the season with a 4-9 overall record. The Gyrenes won four of ther final five matches of the season.
