WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Ave Maria University men's soccer team was defeated on Saturday morning by the Keiser University Seahawks, 9-1 at Arrigo-Vecellio Field. The contest was a non-conference affair, and was moved up in the day to avoid possible adverse weather later in the afternoon.
Keiser took a 4-0 lead in the first half, scoring in the tenth, 13th, 22nd, and 40th minutes. Hannu Tam recorded a hat trick in the opening 45 minutes, while Adrian Camacho Castro provided the other Seahawk goal. Two assists were logged by Noah Graziano. while Evan Finnegan and Cristobal Molina each were responsible for one.
Ave Maria got on the board in the first five minutes of the second half, allowing the Gyrenes to score at least one goal for the fifth time in six matches. Ulises Soto capitalized on a miscue from the Keiser goalie, and finished the shot from close range to pull the Gyrenes within three goals at 4-1.
Tam scored two more goals in the second half, upping his total on the game to five. Keiser's scoring output was finished off by goals from Juan Francisco Diaz, Miguel Cruz Zarraluqui and Ricardo Paiva Pereira. Two assists were provided by Moritz Bange, with one each in the second half from Finnegan, Matheus Machado, David Cruz, and Jake Stanton.
The Seahawks outshot the Gyrenes 28-5 in the match, and held a 15-3 advantage in shots on goal. Other than the goal from Soto, the other two on-target shots from Ave Maria were provided by Alan Gonzalez and Kensley Jean Baptiste. John Turner played the first 62 minutes in net for Ave Maria and made four saves, while Ian Wall made two saves in the final 28 minutes.
Next on the schedule for AMU is a non-conference meeting with Webber International University next Saturday in Babson Park. The match at Warrior Field will mark the final game before conference play starts the following Saturday. Kickoff in Babson Park is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
