Men’s Soccer Drops Match in Miami

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Ave Maria Men's Soccer team fell 3-0 to the St. Thomas Bobcats Saturday night. The Gyrenes had a tough time generating offense, only registering three shots in the match.

St. Thomas opened the scoring in the 10th minute. Andrija Vujakovic had stopped one shot recording his first save of the match but could not control the rebound. The Bobcats popped the loose ball into the back of the net to take the early lead.

The Gyrenes took two shots in the first half, both by Mateo Rolon. Both were directed on goal as well but were saved by the Bobcat goalie.

In the second half, St. Thomas scored two more times before the Gyrenes could register a shot. The first goal was off a corner kick while the second goal was straight up.

Sava Cadjenovic took the final shot of the game for the Gyrenes in the final minute, but it was saved as well, keeping Ave Maria off the board.

Despite giving up the three goals, keeper Andrija Vujakovic made seven stops in the match, four in the first half and three in the second half.

With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 5-5-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Gyrenes are back home Wednesday, October 6, as they play host to the No. 6 Keiser Seahawks. Keiser was off Saturday as the other eight Sun Conference teams were in action against each other. They will take on Florida National Monday before heading west for Ave Maria.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the Urban Edge Network.
