Trinity Medina Promoted to Head Softball Coach

AVE MARIA, Fla. — The Ave Maria University Athletic Department is excited to name Trinity Medina as the head coach of the Gyrene Softball program.

"We're really pleased to have the opportunity to position Trinity at the helm of our softball program," said Vice President of Athletics John Weisbrod. "She has had a great impact as an assistant and I am confident that her character and knowledge will enable her to have even more of an effect as she takes over the head coaching duties."

Medina is entering her third year at Ave Maria, having spent the first two as an assistant coach on the softball staff. Team batting average is one notable statistical area that improved immediately upon her arrival.

Prior to joining the Gyrenes, Medina served one season as a graduate assistant for fellow NAIA school Benedictine College in 2023.

As a player, Medina spent three seasons at Indiana Wesleyan University, playing 74 games for the Wildcats. She batted .303 in her career, collecting 33 hits, 3 home runs and 34 stolen bases. During her years at IWU, she had two Crossroads Regular Season and Tournament Champion titles, two NAIA Opening Round Appearances, and finished fifth in the nation at the NAIA 2022 World Series.

Said former head coach Juliaclare Plezbert, who hired Medina as an assistant coach for the 2024 season, "She brings a broad knowledge of the game with fielding experience at every position, and between the batter's box with a focus on speed and IQ. Her passion and enthusiasm for growth motivates athletes to be their best."

She earned her degree from IWU in business administration with a double major in sports management, and is pursuing a Master's of Business Administration from Ave Maria.
