AVE MARIA, Fla. — The Ave Maria Men's Soccer was at home on Saturday, as they squared off against the St. Thomas Bobcats. The Gyrenes could not keep up with the Bobcats on the pitch, as they lost 5-0.
The Gyrenes played on their heels for the majority of the first half, not registering a single shot. St. Thomas on the other hand opened the scoring in the 6
th minute and kept up the pace through the first half. Ave Maria could not put any momentum together as the Bobcats found the back of the net three more times in the first half. The Gyrenes trailed the Bobcats 4-0 at the break.
The second half was more of the same, as the Gyrenes could not find a consistent offense. Ave Maria was able to take six shots, two of which were on goal. However, both were turned aside.
St. Thomas would continue their assault on the net, scoring their final goal in the 50
th minute.
The Gyrenes made one final push in the end to get one on the board. In the end, Ave Maria fell to the St. Thomas Bobcats 5-0.
With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 6-6 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
The Gyrenes look to get their first conference win on Wednesday, as they travel to West Palm Beach to go up against the Keiser Seahawks. Keiser did not play a Sun Conference match Saturday but drew with the Florida National Conquistadors 3-3. The Seahawks are 0-1-1 in their first two Sun Conference matches for one point in the standings. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. from West Palm Beach and the match will be streamed live on the Sun Digital Network.
