TAMPA, Fla. — The Ave Maria Women's Tennis season came to an end Thursday afternoon as the Gyrenes fell to the NCAA Division II Tampa Spartans 7-0. Just a day after earning their second win of the season from a forfeit from Florida National, the Gyrenes finished off the year with a cross-association matchup.

In the doubles round, Tampa won both sets played to secure the opening point of the match. Maria Hofmeister and Mariangel Nunez won four games in the top position but fell 6-4.

In the singles round, the Spartans won three of the four positions in two clean sets. Melana Mourad was the lone Gyrene able to steal a set from the NCAA opponent, winning the opening frame 6-1. The UTampa player quickly battled back to win the second set 6-0 and then won the tiebreaker set 10-7.

With the loss, Ave Maria finishes the 2026 season with a record of 2-13.
