BOCA RATON, Fla. --- After a pair of exhibition matches last week, the Ave Maria men's tennis team opened their 2017 season on Wednesday at NCAA DII and eighth ranked Lynn University. The Gyrenes fell 9-0 in the evening match.
 
Lynn took all three matches in doubles play. The top AMU duo of David Zuleta and Brian Schmidt and the number two doubles team of TJ Fischer and David Hanton each fell 8-2. The third doubles team of John Towe and Sam Perenich won four games in a 8-4 loss.
 
In singles play, Zuleta (#1 Singles), Fischer (#4 Singles) and Perenich (#6 Singles) were the only individuals to earn a game off their opponent.
 
Lynn ranks eighth nationally and fourth in the region in Division II.
 
The Blue and Green return to the AMU Tennis Complex on Satuday when they host Warner. The women's tennis team will also be in action against Warner.
