AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's and women's tennis teams took on Franciscan this afternoon at the AMU Tennis Complex. The men's team defeated Franciscan 7-2 while the women's team fell 4-2.
 
On the men's side, the Gyrenes took five of the six singles points. David Zuleta, Brian Schmidt, Davin Hanton, TJ Fischer, and Sam Perenich each picked up straight set wins. In double play, Zuleta and Schmidt won at one-doubles, 8-2, while Perenich and Fischer won at two-doubles, 8-6.
 
For the women's team, Marianna Vargas won at one-singles 6-0, 6-2. At one doubles, Vargas and Mary Hardin won the second point for AMU with a 8-4 win.
 
Both teams return to action on Saturday when they take on Eckerd in St. Petersburg at 11 a.m.
