Box Score OXFORD, Ala.- The Ave Maria University women's soccer team got their 2019 season off to a rousing start on Saturday evening, as the Gyrenes pummeled the Talladega College Tornadoes, 10-0, at Choccolocco Park in Alabama. The victory tied a school record with ten goals in the victory, tying the record set against Johnson University in 2013 and 2015.
Senior Hannah Lawrence led the way for Ave Maria, logging a hat trick in the first game of her senior campaign. Lawrence recorded the ninth hat trick in AMU history, and the first since Alexia Mazzoccone and Laura Mastandrea both scored three goals against Johnson on October 1, 2015.

Fellow senior Meghan Precord added two goals for AMU, marking the fifth and sixth goals of her career. With the second goal, Precord moved into the top ten in school history in goals scored, tying Mastandrea and Eliza Scarneccia for tenth place all-time.Â
The other five Ave Maria goals were scored by Laura Spence, Sarah Dalton, Marguerite Estes, Haley Iacona, and Ava Sihler. The goals for Estes, Iacona, and Sihler were the first of their respective collegiate careers, while Spence and Dalton both scored their third career goal. On the other end of the field, the AMU defensive effort kept Talladega off the scoreboard, marking the Gyrenes' first shutout since a 6-0 win over Trinity Baptist last season.
Ave Maria will finish their roadtrip in Alabama on Sunday afternoon against the Eagles of Faulkner University. The Gyrenes and Eagles were originally scheduled to play on Friday night, but were postponed due to excessive lightning. Kickoff in Montgomery, Alabama is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. central.
