ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Ave Maria University Ultimate Frisbee team showcased their skills and teamwork on Saturday, securing a commanding victory against Eckerd College with a final score of 23-3. Ave Maria's players demonstrated their prowess right from the start, dominating the first half of the game with a remarkable 15-1 lead. The Gyrenes' offensive strategies were the highlight of the match, with 12 different players contributing at least one score.

Leading the charge was Thomas Pinto, who emerged as the top scorer of the day with 4 scores, supported by Matthew Lesniewski, who not only scored once but also had 5 assists.

The defensive unit was equally outstanding, making a significant impact on the game. Ave Maria's defense boasted 5 blocked discs and 3 interceptions, effectively thwarting Eckerd College's attempts to score.

This win marks the second consecutive triumph for Ave Maria's Ultimate Frisbee team in the preseason. With a current point differential of +34 scores on the season, the Gyrenes are clearly setting the bar high for their competitors.

Looking ahead, Ave Maria University's Ultimate Frisbee team is gearing up for an exciting home tournament next weekend. The tournament will see them face off against Florida Gulf Coast University, Eckerd College, and Nova Southeastern University. Coach Middendorf expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance saying, "Our team chemistry this year has been amazing. There are a couple things we have to work on as a young team, but the guys are putting in the work and doing things for the right reasons.
