Frisbee Sweeps Florida Conference Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Ave Maria University men's Ultimate Frisbee program delivered a dominant performance at the Florida Conference Championships held at the University of Florida on April 12-13, with both the Varsity and Reserve teams claiming their respective conference titles.

The Varsity squad, competing in the Division I Florida Conference, entered the tournament as the top seed. On Saturday, the Gyrenes opened pool play with a 15-12 win over Florida State, followed by a commanding 15-4 victory over South Florida. The 2-0 pool play record earned Ave Maria an automatic berth in Sunday's conference championship game.

In the final, Ave Maria squared off against the University of Florida and rose to the occasion, securing a 15-9 win and the D1 Conference Championship title.

The Reserve team competed in the Florida Developmental Conference and capped off a remarkable season with a flawless tournament run. Saturday saw the Reserves go undefeated in pool play, notching wins over Nova Southeastern (15-4), USF B (15-3), and UF B (13-4) to earn the #1 seed for bracket play.

On Sunday, they continued their dominance with a 15-1 semifinal victory over USF B, followed by a 15-3 win against UF B in the championship match. The victory marked the end of the season for the Reserve team, finishing their year with a championship and an unblemished record on the weekend.

"God really blessed both of our teams," said Head Coach Michael Middendorf. "This is Our Lady's team and to God we give the glory."

With the conference title in hand, the Ave Maria Varsity team now advances to the Division I Southeastern Regionals, set to take place April 26-27. The weekend's results highlight the strength and growth of the program, and set the stage for an exciting postseason run.
