Ultimate Wins in Regular Season Opener

AVE MARIA, Fla.- The Ave Maria University Ultimate Frisbee team kicked off their season with a solid 20-5 victory against the University of Miami. Coach Middendorf, reflecting on the game, simply stated, "God really blessed us tonight."

The team's strong start, leading 11-1 at halftime, demonstrated their readiness for the challenges ahead. The victory highlighted an intense defensive performance, with Ave Maria thwarting three out of four red zone attempts by the University of Miami.

Notable lead scorers for the night included Matthew Lesniewski and Isaac Carney, each with four scores, while Thomas Pinto and John Paul Pontarelli added three each. Liam O'Rourke and Josef Drost demonstrated exceptional playmaking skills, contributing seven and four assists, respectively.

Looking ahead, Ave Maria University's Ultimate Frisbee squad will spend the next two weeks preparing for an away game against Florida Gulf Coast University on February 9th. Subsequently, both the varsity and junior varsity programs will participate in a tournament hosted at Florida Gulf Coast University on February 10th, providing an opportunity for the Gyrenes to showcase their skills once again.
