AVE MARIA, Fla.- Ave Maria University is pleased to announce the new coaching staff for the AMU competitive dance program. Devon Peterika will take the reigns as the program's third head coach, while AMU alumni Camryn Olive will return as an assistant coach.
"In its first three years, the AMU competitive dance program has made tremendous strides," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Joe Patterson. "We are thrilled with the direction of the program, and we are excited by the new coaching staff's ability to capitalize upon the momentum within the program."
Devon Peterika comes to the University after serving as the director of the dance program at Lehigh Acres Middle School, less than an hour from Ave Maria. While in Lehigh Acres, she led the development and implementation of a comprehensive dance program curriculum, and oversaw all aspects of the school's dance program.
Peterika is a certified dance teacher, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts Administration with a minor in Dance from the University of Kentucky, as well as a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Leadership from Sullivan University in Louisville.
"Becoming the head competitive dance team coach at Ave Maria University is where my passion and purpose perfectly align," said Coach Peterika. "I am thrilled by the opportunity to inspire and lead a team of talented dancers, helping them reach their full potential and achieve their dreams."
Assistant coach Camryn Olive graduated from the University earlier this spring, and she played a key role in the founding of the program. A three-year captain for the Gyrenes, she helped Ave Maria to back-to-back regional top two finishes, and was selected as an All-American following the 2024 season.
Away from the University, Olive has served as a dance instructor at Powerhouse Dance Studio in her hometown of Estero. She graduated from the University in the spring with a degree in Psychology, and earned the athletic department's Gyrene Award, the highest award given.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to join the AMU coaching staff and serve Our Lady's university," said Coach Olive. "I look forward to be able to lead women in athletics and support them in their faith."
