VIDEO AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Record
WIND PLAYERS
Video record yourself playing the following items in listed order. This must be done in a single take with no additional editing. Please make sure that your face and hands are visible in your video.
- Introduction of yourself (name and potential section.)
- Choose one of the following:
- The full range chromatic scale for your instrument, performed in eighth notes (ascending and descending at a minimum tempo of quarter note equals 112.)
or…
- Prepare any FOUR chromatically consecutive MAJOR scales. For example: “A—Bb—B—C” or “Eb—E—F—Gb.” Scales should be played in the full range of your instrument. Include arpeggios if you are able.
- Prepare approximately 2-5 minutes of music of your choice showing both technical and lyrical aspects of your playing. This can be various sections of a solo (no accompaniment needed), parts of etudes, etc. Pick the most challenging music that you can play well. Provide a PDF of your music in the email submission.
DRUMLINE
All drumline video submissions must include an audible metronome, marking time, and a view of the performers entire body. The feet must be visible to ensure precision while marking time. Additionally, the submissions should be performed on real instruments whenever possible. If using a real instrument is impossible, performers auditioning for the snare line, tenor line, and/ or bass line may use a practice pad. If you are auditioning for tenors without an actual instrument, please use a tenor pad. If you are auditioning for cymbals without actual instruments, clapping the rhythm while marking time is acceptable. Students are encouraged to audition for as many instruments as possible. If you are auditioning on multiple instruments, please plan to submit one video per instrument.

Please wear black dance wear/athletic wear and have hair pulled back out of the face. You must use a metronome to keep your tempo. Please use 110bpm. Students are encouraged to audition for as many equipment as they are proficient with. Each equipment audition should be a separate video. Alternatively, students may submit a solo routine with dance and flag/rifle/baton work. Students with substantial dance background but without color guard experience may submit a solo routine with dance work showing their skill and technique.
