AVE MARIA, Fla. — In an electrifying preseason debut, the Ave Maria University ultimate frisbee team beat Florida Gulf Coast University with an impressive 15-1 victory. Ave Maria wasted no time, scoring three times within the opening five minutes of the game.
The Ave Maria squad showcased their offense, with ten different players from the eighteen-man roster contributing to the scoreboard. Spearheading the attack was Liam O'Rourke, who notched an impressive seven assists throughout the evening. The match was marked by stellar defensive plays, including two Callahans, defensive scores achieved by intercepting the frisbee in the opponent's end zone, courtesy of Grant Scaletty and Liam O'Rourke.
Coach Middendorf expressed his contentment with the team's showing, stating, "This marks a fantastic beginning to the season. Yesterday, we dedicated ourselves, this season, and this team to our Lady. We are grateful to have been able to honor her Son through this victory."
Looking ahead, the Ave Maria Ultimate Frisbee team is gearing up for their next challenge as they prepare to host a home tournament, where they will face off against opponents Eckerd and Nova Southeastern.
