Frisbee Dominates FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Ave Maria men's ultimate frisbee team continued their winning streak last night with a dominant 15-3 victory over Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) at FGCU's home field. The Gyrenes showcased their polished offense and exceptional conditioning, putting on a clinic from start to finish in their Thursday night matchup.

Ave Maria started strong, setting the tone with an early defensive turnover that quickly turned into a score. This defensive pressure stifled FGCU, allowing Ave to jump out to a 4-0 lead. FGCU managed to answer with a deep throw that converted into a score, but Ave's offense immediately responded, moving the disc efficiently up the field. By halftime, the Gyrenes held a commanding 8-1 advantage.

The second half followed the same script, with Ave's offense scoring on every drive they received. Their disciplined conditioning and consistent play continued to overwhelm FGCU, leading to a decisive 15-3 finish. Notably, the Gyrenes started six freshmen, who rose to the occasion and contributed significantly to the team's overall performance.

"God really blessed us tonight," Coach Middendorf commented after the game. "We are grateful to FGCU for hosting us; they are a great opponent with some really talented guys. We have some things that we're going to correct on our defense, but we're looking forward to the tournament next weekend."

The Gyrenes are set to travel to Nova Southeastern for a tournament on Saturday, November 16, where they aim to keep up their impressive momentum.
