Women’s Golf Places Three in Top 20 at Jonathan’s Landing

JUPITER, Fla. — The Ave Maria Women's Golf team placed three individuals in the top 20 on the player leaderboard at the Jupiter Collegiate Invitational. Gracie Milam, Lauren Stewart and Marissa Spreitzer were all in the top 20 as Ave Maria finished fifth out of six across Monday and Tuesday.

Spreitzer led the Gyrenes in the first round, finishing 3-over par with a 73. Stewart and Milam were tied for second on the team with a +5. Maya Berglund rounded off the team with a +12. Berglund shot the highlight of a round, recording the first eagle of the season on her 16th hole. As a team, the Gyrenes shot 25-over par and were sitting in fifth place after the opening round.

The second round was the best of the tournament for Ave Maria, shooting a combined 19-over par. It was the third best score of the round among the six teams and moving them up to fourth on the team leaderboard. Stewart led the group this time with a 71, just one over par, matching her best score of the season from the Battle at Black Diamond. Spreitzer was next on the team with a +4, followed by Milam with a +6 and Berglund with at +8.

The third and final round on Tuesday was rough for everybody, but the Gyrenes posted a +46 on the round, more than doubling their score from the first two rounds combined. Milam led the team with +7, followed by Stewart and Spreitzer with +9 and Berglund with a +21. The third round dropped the Gyrenes back to fifth place on the leaderboard, one stroke behind Palm Beach State College in fourth. Ave Maria did finish ahead of the St. Thomas Bobcats by 40 strokes.

Individually, Stewart finished highest on the team, placing 13th on the player leaderboard. Spreitzer was right behind her in 14th and Milam joined them in the top 20 at 18th place. Berglund finished in 28th place and Gianna Moresi finished in 31st place.

Keiser won the tournament with Southeastern placing second and Coastal Georgia placing third.

The Gyrenes have one final tournament this fall before packing up the clubs and waiting for the spring season. Ave Maria will travel to Sebring, Florida, for the Nancy Nichols Match Play October 27 and 28. Like the Jupiter Collegiate Landing, most of the teams competing will be Sun Conference teams with Southeastern, SCAD, St. Thomas, Webber and New College all participating. The two additional schools are Point and Florida College. Live scoring of the rounds will be kept on clippd.com.
