WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Ave Maria Women's Golf team competed in the Kona Ice Keiser Kup March 9-11, and finished sixth out of six teams.
The opening round on Sunday was the best round for the Gyrenes as a team, shooting +58. Gracie Milam and Marissa Spreitzer tied for the team lead in the opening round, each shooting 9-over-par.
Both had one birdie and 10 pars in the round. Maya Berglund was next for the Gyrenes at 17-over-par, also with one birdie, and Ava Bartosiak pulled up the rear with a +23.
Monday was a tough second round for the Gyrenes, who shot +79. Spreitzer had the best round of the day for Ave Maria, shooting 11-over-par. Milam was right behind her at 13-over-par and had the only birdie of the day for the Gyrenes. Berglund was again third for Ave Maria at +21 followed by Grace Wiggins getting on the scorecard for the first time with a +34.
Tuesday got better for the Gyrenes, improving by 17 strokes from previous round. Milam led the team at 9-over-par and had two birdies on the day. Berglund finished second at +15 followed by Spreitzer at +16 and Bartosiak at +22.
Over the whole tournament, the Gyrenes shot +199 and finished in sixth place.
Milam finished the highest individually, placing 19
th at 31-over par.
The Gyrenes get four weeks off before returning to the links April 14-15 for the Florida College Invitational. It is the last tournament the Gyrenes will participate in before the Sun Conference Championship at the end of April.
