PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — The Ave Maria Women's Golf team opened their 2025-26 season Monday and Tuesday, competing in the Seahawk Shootout at PGA National Resort. The Gyrenes finished in a tie for 12
th place in a field of 17 teams. Freshman Gianna Reginelli closed the tournament strongly with a near record breaking final round.
The tournament started on Monday with two rounds and concluded with a final round on Tuesday.
In the opening round, the Gyrenes posted a team score of 57-over par. Reginelli led the team with an 82. The freshman also led the team with two birdies in her first ever collegiate round. Maya Berglund was right behind her with an 83 and a birdie of her own. Rounding out the group was Gracie Milam with an 88 and Lauren Stewart with a 92. Stewart, a junior transfer from Bellarmine, recorded the fourth birdie of the round.
In the afternoon round, the Gyrenes improved by 24 strokes, shooting a combined 33-over par. Stewart, Milam and Marissa Spreitzer all tied for the team lead, shooting 8-over par with an 80. Both Stewart and Spreitzer notched two birdies in their second round. Reginelli rounded out the group with an 81.
Ave Maria hopped over two teams following the improvement in the second round and ended the first day of competition in 14
th place.
In the final round on Tuesday, the Gyrenes shot a combined 47-over-par and jumped two more teams. Reginelli led the team for the second round of the tournament, shooting just 3-over par with a 75. Not only was it the best round of the tournament for any Gyrene, but the freshman also shot the second-best round in AMU women's golf history. Reginelli recorded two birdies to just five bogeys and 11 pars. Her round was second only to Bianca Vicioso's 74 in 2018.
Rounding out the rest of the team was Berglund with an 85, Stewart with an 87 and Spreitzer with an 88. Spreitzer recorded two birdies on the final and Berglund carded one.
With a score of +47 in the final round, the Gyrenes jumped over Lawrence Tech and tied Wayland Baptist for a share of 12
th place in the Seahawk Shootout.
With her phenomenal round on Tuesday, Reginelli rose 21 spots on the player leaderboard and finished in seven-way tie for 31
st overall.
Ave Maria is back in action September 22 and 23 as they head up to Lecanto, Florida, to compete in the Battle at Black Diamond, hosted by New College.
