Women’s Golf Wins Battle at Black Diamond

LECANTO, Fla. — The Ave Maria Women's Golf team won a shortened tournament at Black Diamond Ranch Tuesday, beating the second-place Eastern Florida State Titans by four strokes. It is the Gyrenes' first tournament win since March 19, 2024, when Ave Maria won the Marlins Invitational. The 2-round tournament was cut short after the first 18 holes due to inclement weather.

Lauren Stewart finished tied for first on the player leaderboard, carding a 73 and finishing just 1-over par. It was the best round of 18 holes in AMU history, passing the previous records of 74 and 3-over par. Stewart recorded three birdies in the round, starting her first hole of the day. She is also just the second Gyrene ever to finish first in a tournament.

Gianna Reginelli, who carded the then second-best round in school history in the season opening tournament a week prior, also finished in the top 10 on the leaderboard with a 77.

Marrisa Spreitzer and Grace Milam tied to round out the teams score, each shooting an 80.

With a final score of 22-over par, it was the best round as a team in school history for the Gyrenes as well.

"I am just very proud of the girls," said head coach Kate Sams following the win. "Their patience, resilience, and perseverance in adversity since stepping back on the AMU soil this fall has been brilliant. We have a special team representing AMU golf,"

The Gyrenes are back on the links September 29 and 30 in the Invite at Innisbrook hosted by Dalton State. It will be the third straight year Ave Maria has played at Innisbrook. Live scoring of the rounds will be kept on clippd.com.
