Women’s Golf Competes at Innisbrook

PALM HARBOR, Fla. — Coming off their first-place finish at Black Diamond Ranch last week, the Ave Maria Women's Golf Team finished ninth out of 14 schools at Dalton State's Invite at Innisbrook.

Gracie Milam led the Gyrenes in the opening round, shooting 6-over par. Milam recorded two birdies in her first 18-holes. Marrisa Spreitzer was right behind her with a +7. Spreitzer led the team in pars in the round with 14. Maya Berglund was behind her with a +8 and Gianna Reginelli rounded out the group with a +9. Berglund recorded one birdie in the round and Reginelli carded two.

In the afternoon round on Monday, the Gyrenes improved by 10 strokes from their first round, posting a team +20. Reginelli led team with a tournament low 75, recording three birdies. Spreitzer and Lauren Stewart were right behind her, both with a +5. Stewart also carded three birdies to match Reginelli. Berglund rounded out the group at 6-over par.

The final round on Tuesday was a tough one for the Gyrenes, with just two birdies between the five golfers. Millam led the team at 7-over par, carding 13 pars in her round. Stewart was second at +8, followed by Spreitzer at +10 and Reginelli at +12. Spreitzer had one of the two pars in the round for the Gyrenes and Berglund, who's score was scratched in the final round, had the other.

The women ended 87-over par on the tournament. Gracie Milam finished 33rd individually, shooting 21-over par. Spreitzer was next on the leaderboard at 36th, followed by Stewart at 39th, Reginelli at 47th and Berglund in 50th place.

Ave Maria beat out two Sun Conference foes in New College and St. Thomas, both of who finished over 100-over par.

The Gyrenes will take a week off before returning to the links October 13-14 in the Jupiter Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Keiser. The tournament will be held at Jonathan's Landing and will feature six teams from the Sun Conference. Live scoring of the rounds will be kept on clippd.com.
