LECANTO, Fla. — The Ave Maria Women's Golf team hit the links for the second week in a row as they competed in the Battle at Black Diamond. The Gyrenes improved their score by almost 20 strokes from the PDI Shootout and finished in sixth place of nine teams.

The Gyrenes traveled just four players instead of the usual five, so all scores were counted towards each round.

In the morning round on Monday, the Gyrenes shot a collective +53, their highest score of the three rounds. Lauren Stewart led the team at 5-over-par, carding two birdies along the way. Gianna Reginelli was next on the squad with a +7, followed by Maya Berglund at +11 and Gianna Moresi at +30. Reginelli and Berglund each logged a birdie as well in the opening round.

After 18 holes, Ave Maria found themselves in seventh place, seven strokes behind the sixth place New College of Florida B team.

The Gyrenes improved from the first round to the second, shaving 15 strokes off their score. As a group, Ave Maria posted a score of 38-over-par. Steward again led the team at +6, shooting a tournament-high four birdies. Reginelli was again second on the team at +8 and again logged one birdie just like in the morning round. While the top two scores each added a stroke from the first round, the big improvements came from Moresi. The sophomore shaved an impressive 21 strokes off her score, coming in with a +9 in the afternoon round. She also carded her first birdie of the tournament. Berglund rounded out the group with a +15.

After two rounds of competition, the Gyrenes remained in seventh place, but had closed the gap between them and the sixth place Mighty Banyans by three strokes. Ave Maria need to just shoot better by five strokes to pass New College.

In the final round on Tuesday, that is exactly what the Gyrenes did. Ave Maria shot a collective +37, their best team score of the week, and beat New College by 14 strokes to pass them for sixth place.

Reginelli led the team in the final round at 3-over-par with two birdies. She was followed by Berglund in second with a +5, Stewart at +11 and Moresi at +18. Berglund led the team with three birdies on Tuesday. Stewart and Moresi tied Reginelli at two birdies.

With a final score of +128, the Gyrenes passed New College for sixth place by 10 strokes.

Reginelli was the top finisher for Ave Maria, tying for 16^th place. Stewart was next, tying for 22^nd, followed by Berglund in 31^st place and Moresi at 44^th.
